Then a few days later I had a lot of extra singles and inserted this thicker wad of cash into the clip, and again it held the money very well, but when I took the money out the clip stayed "wider" and no longer would hold a smaller fold of bills securely. I guess this might be common with most money clips, but it seems ridiculous to me that the clip would not stay tight after use. I have wanted to switch from wallet to clip for a while, but could not find one that I liked. This little guy is very nice. The metal is strong enough that I rarely worry about stuff falling out, but malleable enough that if use some of the cash, I can just bend it in and it will still hold everything together. I would say that the optimal thickness is 7 pieces of plastic and 5-8 bills. With just the 7 cards, no matter how much I bend it, it can't hold onto the cards. I would assume that is to be expected with any clip. This doesn't really bother me much at all, but one small defect is that the two corners of the flat end (top right of the stock picture) have discolored just a bit. Almost like they are chipped or puckered underneath the top layer. Unfortunately, the bulky wallet still wins. The money clip just doesn't reliably hold things. It gets stretched out and things fall out. The way money works for me, I usually start the night with a lot and then end the night with less. As a result, the money clip starts out stretched to hold my cash and then ends up not gripping my remaining license and credit cards at the end of the night, so they fall out.This is likely a design flaw with most money clips. The lack of reliability securing my important items renders the clip useless to me. |
