Fortunately, my husband knew that when the fan is installed the blades need to move freely without power and that wasn't happening. If you run it while the blades are locked up you can burn out the motor.He had to take the unit apart and found a clip improperly installed in the motor. He was able to repair it and reassemble the fan and now it works fine. So if you are looking for an outdoor fan I suggest you look at the Hunter Bayview model #23980 Ceiling Fan.
